A Promising Start to the 2024/25 Performance Pathway Cycle

Squash NSW is thrilled to announce the successful completion of Camp 1 for both the Junior Talent Squad and Next Gen Squad, marking a significant milestone in the 2024/25 Performance Pathway cycle. Held over consecutive weekends, these camps showcased the innovative, growth-centric, and progressive mandate driving the future of squash in New South Wales. From intense on-court sessions featuring Squash Australia’s National Pathway Coach, Jenny Duncalf, to performance testing conducted by 4D Health and Performance, the camps provided a dynamic environment for athletes to sharpen their skills, gain valuable insights, and embrace the challenges of high-performance training.

A Showcase of Emerging Excellence
Camp 1 brought together the best junior squash players from across the state, creating an elite environment where athletes could challenge themselves while learning from the top coaching talent. Across each weekend, athletes engaged in technical and tactical drills, match-play scenarios, performance testing, diagnostic assessments, media training and workshops designed to foster professionalism, accountability, and mental resilience. A key highlight of the camps were the 1:1 meetings, where athletes received personalised assessments and began crafting their Individual Performance Plans (IPPs). These plans are tailored to identify each athlete’s strengths, pinpoint areas for improvement, and outline actionable steps for ongoing development. “The professionalism and buy-in shown by our athletes across both weekends was truly inspiring,” said Tessa, CEO of Squash NSW. “Watching these young players embrace the rigours of a high-performance environment was a testament to their character and potential. These camps have laid a solid foundation for the remainder of the pathway cycle.”

What’s Next?
The success of Camp 1 marks just the beginning of an exciting cycle. For both squads, the focus now shifts to implementing their IPPs and maintaining the foundations established during Camp 1. Tailored programs, including strength and conditioning, pre-habilitation and rehabilitation routines, and warm-up, cool-down, and recovery protocols, will ensure athletes continue to progress. Collaborative efforts with 4DHP and Squash Australia will provide athletes with access to world-class expertise and resources, ensuring their development is supported at every step. The next camps, scheduled for early 2025, will build on these foundations. Both our Talent and Next Gen Squad athletes can look forward to advanced technical and tactical training.

With such an incredible start, the future looks bright for the Performance Pathway. Squash NSW remains steadfast in its commitment to fostering a culture of excellence, inclusivity, and growth at every stage of the pathway.
